  1. In the scene where Manuel attempts to put out a fire in the kitchen, firemen were on standby to put out the flames. However in the next shot where Manuel walks out to alert Basil of the fire, two chemicals were added to his arm, to create smoke. During rehearsal and filming these chemicals soaked into his clothing causing Andrew Sachs second degree chemical burns on his arm and back.

  2. I have a “Flay Otters” t-shirt. I was too chicken to get “Flowery Twats”. I wrote somewhere else yesterday that I quote Fawlty Towers way more than is socially acceptable.

  3. Loved that show, its a crying shame that there is only 12 episodes. Liked that they always mumbled up the letters of the sign outside. “Flowery Twats” =p

  4. My fav line ever, from ANY comedy show is from this show….
‘There is too much butter.. on. those. trays’
‘No No.. es… uno dos tres’
*edit* also… ‘is the room airy?’
‘well, there is air in it’

  5. to really understand the importance of the show is to really understand the social attitudes at the time. I remember it started very quietly, by the end of first season it had a small fan base, at the time, video recorders were not the norm, but by the time it was repeated first time, it was being talked about at school. It highlighted Basils ripping into the Germans and his attacks on the Spanish waiters attitude is/was Cleese dig on the narrow minded bigots attitude to the changing face of British (right wing) and we (the British) are really laughing at ourselves – Stereotypes and underdogs so to speak. Besides that its very funny and painfully sad at the same time, you have to feel for Cybil, his staff and his guests. I think most Brits can relate to a raving madman running his own empire..
