I tried following some random guy in Strawberry and he started walking faster and saying “I KNOW YOURE FOLLOWING ME” and eventually he started running so I chased after him into the woods yelling “I’m just messin with ya!”
i miss being a kid when seeing stuff like this. back when you had no clue about how video games were made, what their limitations were and so on. this would’ve seemed like straight up magic.
Good choice with the Jesse James music, the soundtrack in that film was something else, perfectly puts you in the inquisitive mindset of Robert Ford imo.
An interesting part of this is that the items being moved aren’t just magically spawned inside of some related geometry, like how they would be in Skyrim. When an NPC grabs some hay, that bale is actually moved. Does anyone know if another NPC then delivers more hay? Or does it respawn some time later when the hay is offscreen?
To think they had to program and bug test everyone of these characters. I wonder how many had set routines like this and how many are just random. Great video.
Followed a woodsman and hunter in the north part of the map for a while and he told me to shut up and be quite he was hunting game. So I crouched down and was as quite as I could be. He says “there you are ive been looking for you”. And out of nowhere a grizzly bear come running towards him, He aims his rifle and shoots once at the bear hitting it but it didn’t phase the bear, he kept charging towards him. So I got out my 12 guage double barreled shotgun in case he needed backup. He shot again but missed his second shot. And the bear jumps on top of him to maul him. I quickly shoot both round into the bears chest area and kill it. But it was too late. The bear had killed the man cut his throat wide open. Right after that happened I immediately felt guilt that I didn’t act soon enough but that damn bear ran so fast it was unbelievable. His horse came up to his corpse after he died in what to me looked like a sign of mourning.
I never looted the hunters body, instead I picked him up and placed him on the back of his horse. I then scared his horse away to run free in the wild. I only wish I could of buried him a grave, we were in a very pretty area of the world. I wish I could of saved the man.
tl;dw: NPC’s do things throughout the day just like in much older games. Unfortunately everything they do is uninteresting just like in much older games.
Did anyone else notice the soundclip that was reused from Grand Theft Auto San Andreas in the hick areas of the map? Specifically at 7:42 of this video when the NPC in the background says, “I -something- make enough money to learn how to read” “Tell me about it”.
Reminds me of Majora’s Mask. NPCs also had schedules, many of them worked, had a home which they returned to late at night, etc. I’m surprised no one has mentioned it in this thread so far!
I love watching NPCs work in the Appleseed lumber yard and seeing it progress. Every time I come there something new has happened/is happening and in the end I got a carriage of lumber out of it.
Straight up if they put RDR2 into VR and made some kind of sensation bodysuit you’d be like 80% in Westworld. The attention to detail in that game and the breadth of shit you can do is mind-boggling.
I expect stuff like this from Rockstar but it still amazes me how in depth they go with their games.
I know people hate the whole “shark card” on gta so things are more expensive for the rest of us but IMHO Rockstar are the good guys of the gaming industry
I’ve got a question. Will they just continue expanding the town there? Does that building ever get finished? Can you watch them place board after board?
Wow! That log chopping stablehand was very impressively done. Someone spent a lot of time developing his routine. Watching him was like watching a real person going about their life.
I remember being 4-5 when Majora’s Mask came out and being fascinated at the “life” of all the npc’s. Nearly every npc had a different schedule/dialogue for each new day/night. There were timed events and certain consequences for completing things in/out of order. It’s amazing how far we’ve come.
Every time I try to get close to an NPC or befriend them they hate me!
I called out to a guy riding a wagon towards me: “Heya mister– could ya pull over?”
He keeps riding past me and he doesn’t look at me until he fully passes, then he turns to look behind, still moving away and says “Hell no I ain’t pullin’ over!”
I kinda feel like Truman (from the Truman Show), analyzing all the people in his town and finding out that everyone has a pre-planned route they take everyday.
I already know you can’t lasso children.. but can I be a serial killer? Like I just want to fit in … and strangle people behind barns or something. Till there arn’t any people left in town.
Is it me or is it quite astonishing to see a NPC living an actual life instead of standing around or walking somewhere.
Kind of my fear. That we are surrounded by NPC’s pretending to live a full life and possibly don’t even know themselves. Or worse. *I’M A NPC*
doesn’t look like anything to me
if (daytime) {
work();
}
else {
sleep();
}
Lol one bag at a time, guy really needs a cart.
I tried following some random guy in Strawberry and he started walking faster and saying “I KNOW YOURE FOLLOWING ME” and eventually he started running so I chased after him into the woods yelling “I’m just messin with ya!”
I just wanted to be his friend.
🙁

“Doesn’t work too hard”
>moves heavy bags of feed for 13 hours a day
The music adds such an interesting layer to this video.
Fuck you, Ford! I won’t fall for one of your games
I’d like to think Arthur is just creeping on all of these people, crouched down looking at them through a fence just slowly walking towards them.
Reminds me of Oblivion from 12 years ago.
Good choice with the Jesse James music, the soundtrack in that film was something else, perfectly puts you in the inquisitive mindset of Robert Ford imo.
These violent delights have violent ends.
Man that is depressing. TIL I’m an NPC.
Reminds me of something out of Westworld
Ok now I KNOW we are all living in a simulation.
>moves 2 bags of feed
>work done
This is the ideal work day.
This game is Westworld in disguise.
Someone had to QA test the logic for the NPCs to correctly go about their day. Keep that in perspective next time you feel shitty about something.
Follow that dog!
I’m not sure why, but that was relaxing to watch. I love the tiny details in a game like this.
“Drinks too much”
Well, YEAH, with THAT attitude!
Gettin’ a real strong Westworld vibe from this

This is some weird westworld shit.
I did this in GTA5, after about 20 minutes the NPC started asking people for help as some creep was following her.
Erm…someone would tell me if I was just an NPC is an alien game called ‘Life’ or ‘Earth’ or something right?
Why does Person 1 stands in his room dramatically? Did he see a spider in his bed or something?
Should follow the same guy multiple days to see if they change up their job/routine.
This is some West World shit. I swear I actually get bored while playing this then I get on reddit and it makes me hop right back on lol

This is Westworld. It would appear that Rockstar hired people way better than Lee Sizemore.

Do they ever talk to each other?
i’m having an existential crisis. maybe i’m just like them and i don’t know it. ????
Did he actually end up finishing the house?
When you follow an NPC around all day, who is the NPC?
Hey OP where is this song from?
I love watching NPCs work in the Appleseed lumber yard and seeing it progress. Every time I come there something new has happened/is happening and in the end I got a carriage of lumber out of it.

i remember doing this in GTA SA only to be disappointed

Wtf this is in game footage? It’s super realistic.
I’ve got a question. Will they just continue expanding the town there? Does that building ever get finished? Can you watch them place board after board?
But do they do the exact same thing everyday?
RDR2 is the Groundhogday!
So this is how Westworld starts.
Random redditor mentions in passing that they ate chickfila for lunch: 500 /r/hailcorporate comments
Intensive youtube vidoe covering Rockstar’s AI algorithms: “well this is solid content”
shame its not on pc

What is this, Majora’s Mask?
I remember being 4-5 when Majora’s Mask came out and being fascinated at the “life” of all the npc’s. Nearly every npc had a different schedule/dialogue for each new day/night. There were timed events and certain consequences for completing things in/out of order. It’s amazing how far we’ve come.

Bet the dev who had to do all this work was the one to suggest someone make this video.
I kinda feel like Truman (from the Truman Show), analyzing all the people in his town and finding out that everyone has a pre-planned route they take everyday.
We get it Reddit, you watch Westworld.
How was this video made? Does this game have the video editor mode like GTA V?
I already know you can’t lasso children.. but can I be a serial killer? Like I just want to fit in … and strangle people behind barns or something. Till there arn’t any people left in town.
Is that possible?
Soothing and depressing!
“What’s my purpose?”
” You move bags of feed…”
“Oh my God.”
Good work, my friend.
You had a lot of patience, huh? Excellent video
It’ll be super interesting to see a series like this for Cyberpunk 2077 too. They’ve mentioned that every NPC has a full living routine as well.
Nice use of the Assassination of Jesse James soundtrack.
So what yer sayin is I should ditch my urge to buy the new Fallout & just settle in with red dead redemption?
Has there been any good WestWorld easter eggs yet?
