  1. Is it me or is it quite astonishing to see a NPC living an actual life instead of standing around or walking somewhere.

Kind of my fear. That we are surrounded by NPC’s pretending to live a full life and possibly don’t even know themselves. Or worse. *I’M A NPC*

  2. I tried following some random guy in Strawberry and he started walking faster and saying “I KNOW YOURE FOLLOWING ME” and eventually he started running so I chased after him into the woods yelling “I’m just messin with ya!”

I just wanted to be his friend.

    🙁

  3. i miss being a kid when seeing stuff like this. back when you had no clue about how video games were made, what their limitations were and so on. this would’ve seemed like straight up magic.

  4. An interesting part of this is that the items being moved aren’t just magically spawned inside of some related geometry, like how they would be in Skyrim. When an NPC grabs some hay, that bale is actually moved. Does anyone know if another NPC then delivers more hay? Or does it respawn some time later when the hay is offscreen?

  5. Followed a woodsman and hunter in the north part of the map for a while and he told me to shut up and be quite he was hunting game. So I crouched down and was as quite as I could be. He says “there you are ive been looking for you”. And out of nowhere a grizzly bear come running towards him, He aims his rifle and shoots once at the bear hitting it but it didn’t phase the bear, he kept charging towards him. So I got out my 12 guage double barreled shotgun in case he needed backup. He shot again but missed his second shot. And the bear jumps on top of him to maul him. I quickly shoot both round into the bears chest area and kill it. But it was too late. The bear had killed the man cut his throat wide open. Right after that happened I immediately felt guilt that I didn’t act soon enough but that damn bear ran so fast it was unbelievable. His horse came up to his corpse after he died in what to me looked like a sign of mourning.

I never looted the hunters body, instead I picked him up and placed him on the back of his horse. I then scared his horse away to run free in the wild. I only wish I could of buried him a grave, we were in a very pretty area of the world. I wish I could of saved the man.

  6. Did anyone else notice the soundclip that was reused from Grand Theft Auto San Andreas in the hick areas of the map? Specifically at 7:42 of this video when the NPC in the background says, “I -something- make enough money to learn how to read” “Tell me about it”.

  7. Reminds me of Majora’s Mask. NPCs also had schedules, many of them worked, had a home which they returned to late at night, etc. I’m surprised no one has mentioned it in this thread so far!

  8. I love watching NPCs work in the Appleseed lumber yard and seeing it progress. Every time I come there something new has happened/is happening and in the end I got a carriage of lumber out of it.

  9. Straight up if they put RDR2 into VR and made some kind of sensation bodysuit you’d be like 80% in Westworld. The attention to detail in that game and the breadth of shit you can do is mind-boggling.

  10. I expect stuff like this from Rockstar but it still amazes me how in depth they go with their games.

I know people hate the whole “shark card” on gta so things are more expensive for the rest of us but IMHO Rockstar are the good guys of the gaming industry

  11. Random redditor mentions in passing that they ate chickfila for lunch: 500 /r/hailcorporate comments

Intensive youtube vidoe covering Rockstar’s AI algorithms: “well this is solid content”

  12. Wow! That log chopping stablehand was very impressively done. Someone spent a lot of time developing his routine. Watching him was like watching a real person going about their life.

  13. I remember being 4-5 when Majora’s Mask came out and being fascinated at the “life” of all the npc’s. Nearly every npc had a different schedule/dialogue for each new day/night. There were timed events and certain consequences for completing things in/out of order. It’s amazing how far we’ve come.

  14. Every time I try to get close to an NPC or befriend them they hate me!

I called out to a guy riding a wagon towards me: “Heya mister– could ya pull over?”

He keeps riding past me and he doesn’t look at me until he fully passes, then he turns to look behind, still moving away and says “Hell no I ain’t pullin’ over!”

  15. I already know you can’t lasso children.. but can I be a serial killer? Like I just want to fit in … and strangle people behind barns or something. Till there arn’t any people left in town.

    Is that possible?

  16. It’ll be super interesting to see a series like this for Cyberpunk 2077 too. They’ve mentioned that every NPC has a full living routine as well.
