It’s not really a cappella though… He’s just singing the choral arrangement by Barber. The orchestra one is more popular, but he wrote a full choir version too. I’ve sung this version in a choir and in the right space it just blows your mind.
I’m being nitpicky, but choirs aren’t really referred to as a cappella.
I enjoy watching videos like these with my eyes crossed to the point where the left and the right images spawn a third in between them. Try it if you can.
Honestly, Barber’s Adagio for strings is one of the most heart wrenching pieces of music I’ve ever heard. I particularly like the version for Choir, since the slight annunciations give it a slightly more human grounding, adding to its already brilliant poignancy.
And yes, this is a very good recording of it, so glad to have found this on the front page.
Matt Curtis! This guy sang with the professional group Chanticleer when I was part of their youth program. Check them out if you have a chance — they’re pretty incredible.
Such a beautiful piece. We played Barber’s Adagio for strings in my high school chamber orchestra during my sophomore year and got a standing ovation with many people crying afterwards. To this day it is my favorite piece of music that I have ever performed. Thank you for posting this!
Second time I’ve cried to this song tonight. Saw it in an /r/askreddit thread earlier. Such a powerfully heartbreaking song, I wouldn’t have expected one person to cover it so well, even using acapella. Such incredible range.
This song always reminds me of EDC Las Vagas 2011, main stage with Tiesto; the sun rising behind him with the moon, Venus, and Jupiter all in conjunction just above him.
When I was 13 my dad took me to see Platoon at the cinema. At some point I just bawled, I couldn’t help it. I was trying to hide it from my dad and on the way out to the car he asked me what was wrong and I said it was just the film and the horror of it all, but really it was the music, adagio for strings. It’s never left me and hearing it takes me back to that night instantly (you weren’t there man, you didn’t see it, you couldn’t know what it was like), and this was quite beautiful.
Never going to be bored of any variation of this piece.
God imagine how many takes this took as he sat numerous times singing the same song in one flourish. if he choked, restart. if he was out of pitch, restart. Someone makes a sound audible by mic, restart. and how many hours of audio recorded just to make this.
wow! he’s good

I was expecting the Tiesto remix. XD
In places, he’s so perfectly in tune with himself that’s he producing summative tones.
Stellar.
Those guys sing well.
Brb gotta go play some Homeworld
I liked it, but not as good as the Tiesto original. I liked the old timey take on such a classic.
One of my favorite soundtracks and movies. Check out platoon if you haven’t already
Kharak is burning.

That guy was a member of one of the greatest choral groups, Chanticleer.
Jesus that’s smooth and clean!
Bastille did something similar for the [intro to a cover of “What is Love?”](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TR_tRXj28xo) a few years back.
*Agnus Dei
By Sam Barber
Holy shit balls.
“They got Elias!”

Adagio for *sings*
That was incredible. It was one of those videos I set out to just watch a bit of and ended up going all the way through.

Holy shit that voice. 1:34
This is actually the choral arrangement for adagio for strings called Agnus Dei.
Thanks for watching my video everyone! This piece is so moving and powerful. Just amazing music.

I need tissues again. Been a rough night.
Just…. wow.
Wow…
Santa Clara vanguard 2000
Mothership. Mothership. Mothership.
Zeeeerrrrrrrmoo.
All ships auto-launching…
Noones left. Everything’s gone. Kharak is burning…
Kharak is being consumed by a firestorm.
The scaffold has been destroyed.
All orbital facilities destroyed.
Significant debris ring in low Kharak orbit.
Receiving no communication from anywhere in the system…
Not even beacons….
Wait, on the maintenance frequency. I’m getting a signal from the cryo-tray systems in orbit. One of them is suffering a massive malfunction.
The cryo-tray are under attack, defend them!
“No one’s left.
Everything is gone.
Kharak is burning.”

I got so many chills my body was bloody convulsing
The guy at the top right has the best voice.
Thanks for the video – it was absolutely beautiful 🙂

Holy Christ that man can sing.

absolute passion
I’ll just leave this [here.](https://youtu.be/ukDAfF0-8q8?t=42s)
Top left did pretty much everything, other three are just tagging along his talent. Should try solo career instead.
The high notes at 1:37 holy hell! Guys got talent!
He must know how to transcend space and time. I see no other rational explanation.
This is simply amazing to see and hear.
