  1. Joke-worthy titling aside, what an amazing dude. I am glad his legacy could contribute so much and his memory can live on in the hearts of not just Canadians, but cancer survivors too.

    Fuck cancer.

  2. My high-school made us debate over who was the “greatest Canadian”.

I remember arguing with the group who had Terry Fox and came away with the best line and definitive reason why he shouldn’t be #1 (over Pierre Trudeau):

    He didn’t make it.

  3. Terry is a true hero and there is a nice statue of him in Victoria, BC at the end of Douglas Street that you should see and reflect upon, if you ever get the chance.

  4. Prosthetic limbs have come a long way. I think the pain of running with it would have made me give up within the first 10 miles.

We have parks, streets and buildings named after him. We even have a yearly Terry Fox Run to commemorate him and raise money.

Terry is one of our faves, right up there with Poutine, milk in bags, The Tragically Hip and the Avro Arrow.

  5. He is a national treasure. Children are taught about Terry Fox starting in Junior Kindergarten. There are countless monuments, and places named after him. I actually live about half a km away from the “Terry Fox Trail”. Everyone in Canada loves this dude! My elementary school would participate in Terry Fox runs every year to raise money for cancer research, I am sure thousands of other schools participate as well.

  6. My first impression of Canada growing up was of this guy. I had these books that talked about amazing people who exemplified qualities like perseverance and honesty. I just googled it and they were a book series called ValueTales and the one about him is called “Value of Facing a Challenge: The story of Terry Fox”.

    I loved those books.
