UPDATE+++++ 10/20/17 ++++++
Thank you for watching the video! I speak about painting on a panel in the video. Panels that I use are generally made of wood. Here are a couple of links to panels: These are 8X8 panels which you will need to prime first. This next link are these cool little 4X4 boards that are good for practicing this process.

In this video I explain a little of how floetrol works, what its uses are and how it effects paint long term. Additionally I do a dirty pour and include the recipe with the video.

NOTE: Using any kind of chemical or combustible poses risks. Wearing protective clothing such as a respirator, goggles and gloves is highly recommended. Always work in a well ventilated area.

Recipe using Floetrol: – All measurements are by weight.

Items needed:

Floetrol for LATEX PAINT
Medium bodied acrylic paint
Distilled water
Silicone

For each color mix the paint and floetrol first. This is important in preventing the paint structure from changing. Once the paint is mixed then add the water. For larger cells add your silicon but do not stir the paint. For smaller cells you can stir the paint mixture with the oil.

Measurement Ration for Recipe:
Floetrol – 2 Parts
Paint – 1 Part
Water- 1 Part
Silicone – 5 drops

Measurements in the video were:

Floetrol – 0.4 ounces
Paint – 0.2 ounces
water – 0.2 ounces
silicone 5 to 10 drops

To convert your recipe to grams please visit this site:

All the paint was added to a single cup and then poured onto the canvas.

I hope this gets you started with your creativity! Thank you for subscribing and all the wonderful comments. I truly appreciate everyone’s input. Have a great weekend!

  1. Danny, I love an artist to shares information they got as a result of speaking with a product manufacturer. It adds a lot of credibility to your expertise. I’m playing with your recipe for dirty pour with Floetrol. You seem to use much more silicone than many others in their tutorials but your results speak for themselves. I am seeing significant improvements by adding the water AFTER mixing paint and Floetrol as well as using distilled water and not tap water. Who knew? Thanks for sharing. You are having an impact on my work as a result, for the better. Can’t ask for more than that. Stay cool.

  2. Thank you very much for your video! It was very informative! I'm getting ready to do two 30 X 40 canvases (I've never painted one that big before) and I'm a little, no, very nervous to do them! I hope they turn out nice! 🤞🤞🤞

  3. I believe you answered almost every question I have had about this process. Only question remaining is… do you need to clean the silicone off the dried surface before applying any finish and if so what do you recommend.

  4. goodevening dear.very beautiful art.may i get detailed video on how to use resin on your painting.i mean the same epoxy n hardner mixed or what.hv no idea.please enlighten my mind.thanks

  5. Dannny, thank you so much for this video, very informative. I'm a newbie and love getting as much understanding about the impact of the chemical components. LOVE ALL INFO
    What's crazing?
I was trying to determine what size canvas to use for testing. I was gonna use the 5×7. The 8×8 is even better.
I'll be watching this over and over.
Keep sharing please, I will keep watching.

  6. I agree I get more nervous on commission pieces than I do for myself but sometimes they like to take the picture that I didn’t like in place of the one that they really wanted everybody has such different taste it’s always fun when I have my art shows to see what they pick you can see how I do it on my channel I have an art show from home from years ago I’ve been painting for a long time and plus this type of Art now . Lots to learn on editing

  7. Im truly sorry. Im still naive how to diy floetrol. I dont understand. Floetrol is not sold here.
I hope is not too much to ask. All i wanted to know is how to make my own floetrol. Many videos here are teaching how to use floetrol.
    Thanking you in advance.

  8. I'm about to make my first attempt at this type of fluid painting, and after having watched dozens of videos of pours, pouring and "recipe" tutorials, etc., I can't tell you how refreshing it is to see one where somebody can explain what's really going on with this process. Even just understanding why mixing the paint with the various pouring media vs "manipulating" it with thinning agents is very enlightening. You've got another sub.

  9. Will this last for a long time? Do I have to coat it with something after drying in order not to chip or crack in time? I'm new to this and I'm thinking of making these for some extra money since I'm a stay at home mom. I would not want to sell these and then start to chip or crack after a while. I've read that silicone might affect the quality of the paint over time. What recipe is best for a long lasting acrylic pouring paint? Thank you!!

  10. What a FANTASTIC and Incredibly Informative video, Woohoo!!! So much great information shared in a relatively short video. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for doing this and posting it. I was giggling when you said you liked it and hoped viewers did too because I had just said I LOVED it, it's beautiful. The colors you used and saving the teal for last was perfect, great call. It's just BEAUTIFUL and each color has its own mark while melding together, The cells are amazing! . I'm completely inspired and I appreciate the recipe with other great tips. THANK YOU!!!

  11. Hello! What a great teacher. I might have missed this though…can Rain-x also be added? I hear of people using it. However, liquitex is only mentioned. I prefer floetrol. Thank you, appreciate your assistance in advance and look forward to seeing more of your videos!

  12. Absolutely brilliant video. The first one I have seen that explains so in depth the reason for the recipe and the recipe itself. Thank you so much <3 PAAAARRRTTTYYYYYYY 🙂
