Also note that few devices that existed 20 years ago are useable technology today. The better option is to keep photos on current media and hash them (md5 or sha-1). Then you periodically recheck the hashes to verify integrity. If there is an inconsistency, you restore from a verified copy. It is best to keep 3 copies on different media, periodically checking the hashes of all three.

If you put a non magnetic spring between 2 positive sides of a super magnet the spring stays in place with glue.
