Food Styling: Make Prop Food Look Great on Camera

Happy (American) Thanksgiving from RocketJump Film School! In the spirit of the holiday season, we decided to talk about food styling– a craft all about making food look good for the camera. We go over some classic Thanksgiving dishes and some of the tricks stylists use to make these dishes picture perfect.

Special thanks to good friend, Jimmy Wong, for joining us. You can see more of him cooking up delicious treats on Feast of Fiction!

Shoutout and thanks to our PA Tony Restivo!

  1. I m vegan although i have nothing against those who choose to eat meat, but when it comes to food guys, this is unacceptable , this animal had a cruel life and afterwards got butchered up just so that you can create a picture, while at the same time there are people out there dying from hunger, come on , we should respect life and honor it , at least find a way to do this and eat the poor turkey at the end of the shooting, as humans we are clever enough to invent technology , we can literally fly to moon and back , isn't there any other way to cook this turkey so it can look good and be eateble at the same time ??? this shooting tutorial shooted my heart. Nowadays there are 3D programs to do these things and photoshop, couldn't you just use something like balsamic vinegret to paint it and some photoshop? … I m not trying to be mean or anything, you both look cute and nice people, but such a shame about this shooting , you can be better than this ! …. Thiiiiink humans, go ahead and make your brain work , the easy way is not always the good way !!!!! Be clever !

  2. If I was gonna make a movie, i'd just have all the food prepared like it would normally be. It would be the most realistic, wouldn't it? Not like we're mcdonalds and need the burger to look 3000 times better then it actually does. And then let the crew eat it after.

  3. Lol @ all these people crying about the “wasted food” when Americans waste about 160 billion pounds of food annually…obviously every bit matters but this aspect of filming is far from any primary contributor to food wastage.

  4. Amazes me how much people just don't care. These are toxic. What happens when it goes to the garbage? Where birds, stray animals, wild animals etc are trying to find food? What happens when it goes to a landfill or dump? This shit is why I don't watch TV….

  5. now I want to make chicken….that'll have to be saved for later today o3o no super glue, or under cooking here, I'm cooking this hell-bound bird all the way to awesomeness.
