Happy (American) Thanksgiving from RocketJump Film School! In the spirit of the holiday season, we decided to talk about food styling– a craft all about making food look good for the camera. We go over some classic Thanksgiving dishes and some of the tricks stylists use to make these dishes picture perfect.
Special thanks to good friend, Jimmy Wong, for joining us. You can see more of him cooking up delicious treats on Feast of Fiction!
Shoutout and thanks to our PA Tony Restivo!

I m vegan although i have nothing against those who choose to eat meat, but when it comes to food guys, this is unacceptable , this animal had a cruel life and afterwards got butchered up just so that you can create a picture, while at the same time there are people out there dying from hunger, come on , we should respect life and honor it , at least find a way to do this and eat the poor turkey at the end of the shooting, as humans we are clever enough to invent technology , we can literally fly to moon and back , isn't there any other way to cook this turkey so it can look good and be eateble at the same time ??? this shooting tutorial shooted my heart. Nowadays there are 3D programs to do these things and photoshop, couldn't you just use something like balsamic vinegret to paint it and some photoshop? … I m not trying to be mean or anything, you both look cute and nice people, but such a shame about this shooting , you can be better than this ! …. Thiiiiink humans, go ahead and make your brain work , the easy way is not always the good way !!!!! Be clever !
3:35 your welcome
Why not buy plastic fake food? It would last longer, mAybe years.
I always thought the food in movies or shows was real and that when they were done shooting the crew got to eat the food. This makes much more sense.
I don't know y this was in my recommendations but Idc because I just found my April fools pranks
If I was gonna make a movie, i'd just have all the food prepared like it would normally be. It would be the most realistic, wouldn't it? Not like we're mcdonalds and need the burger to look 3000 times better then it actually does. And then let the crew eat it after.
What a waste of food
Gordon Ramsey does not approve
Can’t believe they boiled the green beans and then waterboarded them immediately after in shocking icy cold water. Heartless.
Is everything a lie, is Tasty a lie
So for TV entertainment you are literally wasting food. Like animals nor human can eat this TV food with out getting sick or dying! Wow extremely sad!!
I have a friend whose mom is a food stylist. She's a really cool lady. 🙂
I got a food styling ad before this
Mmmm Mashed potatoes and Tampons MY FAVORITEMMMMMMM
why can't you/they just make an imitation from wax or whatever, so it wouldn't be wasteful
Lol @ all these people crying about the “wasted food” when Americans waste about 160 billion pounds of food annually…obviously every bit matters but this aspect of filming is far from any primary contributor to food wastage.
Jimmy Wong is so adorable 😍😂
interesting! one question though, how do they solve the problem of the pie sweating? custard pies (like pumpkin) bead sweat when left out
It's tide pods all over again.. any one else just wanna eat shaving cream straight from the can now?
This is america to the T… ruining perfectly good food in order to sell a glutenous meal to people.
video begins at 3:23
6:05 on on the right is miles better ngl
I got an ad for food photography before this
who the hell chews cool whip??? lol
To be honest, Hannibal is the only cooking show I watch. All the dishes he cooks are delicious.
Amazes me how much people just don't care. These are toxic. What happens when it goes to the garbage? Where birds, stray animals, wild animals etc are trying to find food? What happens when it goes to a landfill or dump? This shit is why I don't watch TV….
The food doesn’t look as appetising once you know how it’s made…
I'm sad now… Wow… What a waste of good food…
That guy sounds like Steven from Buzzfeed.
that turkey just died for that😂(no hate)
now I want to make chicken….that'll have to be saved for later today o3o no super glue, or under cooking here, I'm cooking this hell-bound bird all the way to awesomeness.
A.K.A LYING TO YOUR CUSTOMER ABOUT YOUR PRODUCTS THAT THEY WILL NEVER BE THE SAME
"Now we have a place to put the tampons "!!! Lmao 😂 😂 WTF
I thought you guys used a blowtorch on the bird just to tan the outside layer
Lots of people on here calling out the food waste… you're not wrong but I'm willing to bet that retail stores are far and away bigger sources of food waste than the prop food industry
Belizzimo pirù
What a waste of a bird. 👎
