You should check out more of this guy’s stuff. It’s fantastic. I spent hours watching his [Big Bote](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfVWFe-0UxM&list=PLxZDt_IcFvpOcGLDZPYyRjIj_BVz_Lsdr) videos and I typically don’t have the attention span for that kind of stuff. Super interesting content. If you like experimental DIY, his channel is a dream come true.
This vehicle is powered by the four golf cart batteries… not by the solar panel. A 275W solar panel would require multiple days of direct sunlight to charge the four deep cycle golf cart batteries, only to run the vehicle for a short time.
There’s also a [claim](http://i.imgur.com/Jv5yGik.png) at 2:34 that it can run without the batteries. One 275 Watt panel is not going to run a 1.5HP (1118.55 Watt) motor, no matter how sunny it is. This is basically a shitty DIY golf cart with a solar panel attached for gimmicks sake.
I’ll upvote anything by J Mantzel. That guy legit sold everything he owns and started from scratch in South America. I found his adventure builder series to be very empowering. His “My Way of Life” video still helps me everyday, almost 4 years later. Thanks for posting! His dozer is beautiful!
It’s worth noting that it’s actually an electric bulldozer with a solar panel on top. The solar panel can’t provide enough power by itself to drive the motor. Instead, the solar panel tops up the battery, the energy is stored and then pulled from that.
I don’t want to tear this apart too much. But this could have been improved vastly with some more forethought.
1. So you can’t stop the dozer with your bare hands? I should hope not! To be of any use whatsoever a dozer needs to push large volumes of dirt, sand and rocks weighing hundreds of kilos.
2. The steering mechanism is obviously bad.
3. The tires have very poor grip which would make this unusable in anything but ideal conditions. Grip is super important which is why dozers often use tracks.
4. The clearance is terrible. Dozers need to operate in uneven terrain. They are the thing you use to MAKE even terrain.
5. The swingarm on the front bucket intersects the drivers seating space. Very dangerous.
Overall, this just seems like once of those cases like, “just because you CAN do something, doesn’t make it a good idea”.
Dibs on band name Solar Bulldozer
I want one.
Damn I came to post this to, this build was awesome to watch.
I really like it but would hate that steering mechanism.
This is the giant mechanical walking spider guy and he moved on from his Arch he was building previously?
Edit: i was making a joke but it is the dude. Ofcourse it is. This guy is rad.

How is this guy a pirate? Does he plunder civilian cargo vessels for his money to make these?
I love seeing stuff like this.
Smart enough to build a solar powered bulldozer. Not smart enough to realize the benefits of a traditional steering wheel.
Anybody have any idea on what kind of solar panel and charge controller he’s using?
this guy is so awesome i knew who it was before i clicked the link.

I was hoping it would be from “Primitive Technology” 🙁
Man, Primitive Technology has really made some progress.

All insane-but-charming people have a catch. What’s the catch?
Scientologist? Anti-vaxxer? Fundamentalist mormon?
impressive for not having the typical real heavy machinery to help build
A hero of canton, man they call Solar powered bulldozer.

redneck richard hendricks
Catch up with all of this guys craziness over at r/adventurebuilders
The machine is impressive, but the crocs make me think less of him.

This is probably not gonna be very hot to touch in the sun.
I had forgotten all about this guy. He’s a genius but crazy.
