The Secret Life of a Material

Konstfack Textile department has for the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2013 invited to a collaboration with the research and development company Innventia. Working with renewable plastics derived from gluten, we have created a one week workshop aiming to explore the materials properties, stretch its boundaries and invent new interesting ways of application. With a hands on approach and by implementing textile processes on an unfamiliar material we uncover new possibilities within the field of textile design.

Interested in challenging and developing the creative process we have created a range of objects. Each of them unique in expression and technique demonstrating the potential and possibilities of one material. The exhibition documents experiments through to products and is a show case of the diversity of methods and approaches present at the Konstfack Textile department.

Renewable gluten plastics are developed by Mikael Gällstedt at Innventia.

The Secret Life of a Material is a continuation of the design research project Temporal Textiles initiated at The Interactive Institute by Jenny Bergström and Johan Redström.

Course Direction: Jenny Bergström and Ulrika Mårtensson
