  1. Wow some of that stuff is beyond incredible the monkey being able to control the wheelchair to go to the food just with an implant in his brain is fascinating I can’t wait to see that technology advanve further you could make a completely controlable limb that theoretically could do a task without being attached to you, the implications are insane!

  2. wow this is amazing, Tech has given people there lives back. wonderful to hear how this has change there lives from not able to able.

  3. A few observations:

    * The fact that the first woman they interviewed had a collection of beautiful shoes on the wall behind her which rivaled her collection of bionic arm attachments somehow struck me as oddly charming, especially when considering that some of her prosthetics had a truly stunning design aesthetic to them. You can tell she sees these bionics as a true extension of herself, which I find deeply humanizing.

    * You’re not far off (two or three generations at most) from fusing mechanical prosthetics with bio-engineered components. The bearded man with the chip implants has it mostly right, but I would recommend investing additional funds into the research of optogenetics for high speed, high bandwidth, bidirectional human/machine interfaces (wires, while good for basic research, will not take you all the way). Species that make it this far tend to advance quite rapidly once they clear this hurdle.

  4. Give me two of those arms on a telescoping rod attached to a roomba, sort of like wall-e…I just want something to fold laundry, clean the dishes, and vacuum the floor…

  5. is the reason they didnt show the monkeys head because the top of its skull has been removed to allow access to the brain?

would have been nice to how they had it set up :'(

  6. when she was talking about making the bionic arm obvious and her decorating it to make it her own, it reminded me of [Japanese concept of kintsugi](https://youtu.be/5yZ8a_zAEl0?t=399) where pottery is repaired and there is no attempt to hide the repair, rather the repair becomes a new artistic expression

  7. Amazing. Showing this to my son who has no lower left arm. He’s very self conscious and unsure about anything to do with his arm so this has helped and more videos like this and publicity make it seem possible to educate and innovate. Amazing
