Pitfall! (I figure Activision included the exclamation mark to prepare you for relentless excitement) was another game I spent a gazillion hours on in my youth.
I’m not sure if one could beat this game, but I vaguely remember looping around the jungle back to the beginning before the time limit expired.
For kicks I shot the pouring water element with my iPhone 3GS video camera against a pillow case bluescreen. I stabilized the shot in Mocha AE and pixelated the water in After Effects.
As with the Donkey Kong piece, the 2.5D world was created in After Effects.
Appended to the animation is a non-illuminating making-of montage.
